Not much to this story.
Yes, we're dormant to the point of unconscious, but hey, this site has been renewed for another year so let's try to use it (or not, whatever).
That being said, what are the thoughts/feelings on making this a Toronto FC supporters board for the time being.
As the owner/administrator/dictator of this board, know that I am adamantly pro-Hamilton in any and every facet but I need a football fix and since the CSL has no hands in the Hamilton community as of yet, maybe write about what we know of.
If anyone has a voice AGAINST this being an extension of the TFC family of supporters (until Hamilton gets into the MLS, which to be honest, is inevitable), please voice so on the message board. Otherwise, I'll have a new look for this site soon-ish and begin posting relative articles and opinion editorials by myself and anyone else that would like to step up.
Thank you for your patronage.

Soccer is a violent sport. Soccer will be the ruin of our fragile, safe and innocent society.
Can anyone paint a better picture here?
The comments in general were pretty much extracted from two local media outlets.
It's easy to ignore the fact that (a) there was a soccer game, and (b) it was REALLY GOOD. The Serbians won it 3-1, which the following news excerpts fail to mention, but the picture wasn't that stupid fans = bad (which both sides were equally to blame), but soccer fans = bad. I guess there aren't any stupid football or hockey fans, huh?
Why did they have to wait for flares to land on the turf before an announcement was to be made? If fireworks are forbidden, then why not start arresting people? Throwing out people? There were "security" and policemen there... we witnessed one guy removed for lighting a flare and the brilliant response we saw was "but they started it first".
The game was abandoned 15 minutes from time just after Croatia bagged a penalty.
The first article is from the Spec, the second from CHML. And as far as the CHML "report" goes, there was only 2000 and if anyone of the fans could actually throw a flare that far, they should have that fan suit up for their beloved TiCats. The only thing thrown at one another were insults... not that we could understand what was being said either way.
Footix said it best, "this is likely the meaningful match to be played here all year".

Sunday August 13, Toronto Lynx @ Hamilton Serbians, 5pm kick off at 'The Tim'
|
|
So yeah, it's kinda slow around here. No home club to support, the only games we may be interested in taking in aren't for a few more weeks.
Who's up for a game? Non-league locals v. big USL team? It's got an "FA Cup-giant killer" feel to it. Face it... this is Yeovil Town against Arsenal, and we're Yeovil.
Oh sure, they've knocked out Oakville and Supra (which we weren't there for), but this could be of epic proportions. The Lynx knocked out the high flying and even higher scoring Serbian White Eagles. So at best, we could be seeing a decent game, either way you cut it.
And an early Sunday evening out at the Tim... who could ask for much more.

Sweep could put team in a playoff spot; a split would mean a good finish
By Tony Fitzgerald
The Hamilton Spectator (Jul 5, 2006)
The fledgling Hamilton Lady Avalanche have recovered nicely from a 0-3 start to the W-League season and could finish as high as second place in the Northern Division.
The Lady Avalanche have two games left in the regular season -- a home-and-home meeting with Rochester Rhinos.
An Avalanche sweep could put them in a playoff spot. A split would provide them with a good finish to an inaugural soccer season.

Canada U-20 v. USA U-20, Rogers Centre, this Friday, 7pm kickoff
|
|
For those of you that didn't know, the 'baby buds' (just made that up) are lining up against our neighbours south of the border for a warm-up leading into the U-20 World Cup that will be played in 6 cities across Canada.
SECTION 121, Rows 2-8 is where the Voyageurs, Canada's unofficial but devout soccer supporters, will be located with flags, song and atmosphere.
And if you don't want to sing with us, come out to the game anyways and support Canada's next generation of footballing heros.

Serbian White Eagles press conference
|
|
Footix writes "
After I found the place where I was going (made much easier by the large Serbian White Eagles signs outside), I then needed to get in. I simply asked the person on the gate if I could get in despite not being "on the list" - she asked if I was from the media, I replied "sort of", and I got my credential (scan coming later). I sat down, got offered a glass of wine ("no thanks, I'm working") and met someone about my age working for The Fan 590."

Right now, information obtained indicates that the liklihood of a Hamilton entry for the 2006 CPSL season isn't very good. Upon speaking to the gentleman involved with the new club, many issues arose that could not be taken care of in time to properly field a squad. "It has to be done correctly" was the overlying theme of the conversation, not wanting to rush into a scenario where all facets of the club were not correctly in place. Avoiding the trappings of previous years, there was no coach in place and no scheduled tryouts prepared to move the on-field part forward.
"To rush ahead without proper organization would be unfortunate." Many positive plans were in the works revolving around having this team operate like a 'club' rather than a 'franchise', with full youth teams, marketing plans, proper sponsorship and rebuilding a relationship with the soccer community. At the end of the discussion, if was clear that they wanted to avoid repeating past mistakes.
From a selfish, scarf-wearing, song-singing, footie-fanatical loud mouth point of view, one cannot help but be disappointed. I would love nothing more than to have a team to support now, but not at the expense of next season. If sitting out a season means having a club for the next 5 years, then so be it.
Agree, disagree? Sound off in the message boards.

Crossing the 't's and dotting the 'i's

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that those forces at work to see to a new club are on the verge of going public with an announcement of a new club for you to support for the 2006 CPSL season.
This means many important things:
1) a reason to leave the house
2) a reason to sing in public
3) a reason to reintroduce ourselves with a certain club down the 401 that the second word in their name rhymes with a common bad word.
4) a reason to wear your Canada, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United or Kaiserslauten kits
Official news to be released very soon... I hope.
